Duties and Procedures

Opening

  1. Unlock all necessary gates and doors;
  2. Test chlorine and PH, check chlorinators, adjust as needed. Record findings in the record book;
  3. Vacuum the pool and skim the surface;
  4. Clean all skimmers;
  5. Check pressure in filter tanks, backwash if necessary;
  6. Hose off any tables and chairs if necessary;
  7. Bring all safety equipment out to pool side;
  8. Make sure the sign-in sheet is out for the residents/members and/or guests to sign;
  9. Check garbage cans and pick up litter;

DURING POOL HOURS:

  1. Test the chlorine and PH at least once every hour and record it. Keep the chlorine at a level of at least 1.0 (1.5 is ideal) and no more than 3.0;
  2. Make sure all pool rules are being enforced;
  3. NEVER turn your back on the pool;
  4. NEVER sit on a lounge chair;
  5. When 2 lifeguards are on duty at the same time, sit on opposite sides of the pool. NEVER SIT TOGETHER.
  6. Sit as close to the edge of the pool as possible (i.e., don't sit with at table between you and the pool);
  7. If there is a kiddie pool, check to make sure that the children are being watched by their parent(s). You are NOT RESPONSIBLE to guard the kiddie pool unless instructed otherwise;
  8. Keep the pool clean; skim pool, clean skimmers, clean tiles, etc. as needed;
  9. Notify either Bernie (office: 201-332-1047) - or - Jamie (Cell: 201-852-0265) of any problems;

CLOSING:

  1. Straighten chairs;
  2. Put down the umbrellas;
  3. Put all equipment away;
  4. Put the garbage out or handle as instructed (please ask for procedure if you are not sure);
  5. Make a list of any supplies that are running low and call the office so you can have the supplies ASAP (chemicals,  supplies, sign-in sheets, etc.);
  6. Turn down the chlorinators unless otherwise instructed;
  7. Lock all doors and gates;
  8. Return keys if necessary;

PROCEDURES DURING RAIN AND/OR INCLEMENT WEATHER:

  1. Report to work at your scheduled time and stay there (unless otherwise notified);
  2. Test chlorine and PH as usual and record;
  3. Scrub the tiles around the top of the pool, etc.;
  4. Most important - DO NOT LEAVE;
